Four photo layouts
- Portrait — a magazine-style two-column CV with a framed photo and a contact ribbon along the bottom.
- Boutique — a soft tinted sidebar with a circular photo and icon contacts.
- Sidebar — an accent rail holding your photo and skills, with experience on the right.
- Block — a single-column CV with a bold ink banner and your photo in the header.
The other templates leave the photo out to keep the layout as ATS-clean as possible, so you can produce a photo CV and a photo-free resume from the same data.
Should you put a photo on your CV?
It depends on the country. In Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and parts of Central and Eastern Europe, a photo is common and often expected. In the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, and Australia, leave it off — employers avoid photos to reduce bias, and some will discard applications that include one.
Choosing the photo
- A recent head-and-shoulders shot against a plain background.
- Natural light, neutral expression or a light smile, clothes you would wear to the interview.
- No selfies, group crops, or holiday photos.
- The editor centre-crops the upload to a square, so frame your face in the middle.

Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The photo is read by your browser, stored only in the open tab, and embedded directly into your PDF and JSON backup.
Do photo CVs work with an ATS?
The text in the PDF stays real, selectable text, so it still parses. Two-column layouts carry a small risk with older systems; if you are applying through a strict portal, switch to a single-column template for that application.
